A Powerful Tool for Decision-Making and Development:

Over the past five years, PDI, in conjunction with key, Fortune 100 clients, has implemented an innovative instrument designed for use in performance management and development. This instrument is ideally suited to situations where an organization needs robust employee performance and talent information for use in development and for decision-making purposes.

TalentView® of Performance is a unique tool that can be administered as a 360° or simply with input from a participant and his/her direct manager. TalentView® of Performance:

  • Provides developmental feedback at the competency and behavioral level. This feedback, based on key performance measures, will accelerate development in areas most critical to organizational performance.
  • Provides a reliable, accurate, and legally defensible measure of performance and, ultimately, a means for showing differentiation among people and for making effective human capital decisions. When coupled with a measure of potential or capability, the decision-making power of TalentView® of Performance is further enhanced.



TalentView® of Performance is derived from PDI’s robust Enterprise Competency Architecture and incorporates behavioral-level performance anchors commonly referred to as Behaviorally Anchored Rating Scales or BARS. Using BARS, individuals do not have to decide the meaning of a numerical rating (e.g., what’s the difference between “4 = To a great extent” and “5 = To a very great extent”?). Instead, they simply read a behavioral description and choose an appropriate rating. This evaluation method ensures accurate and reliable ratings by providing the raters with clear performance standards for each behavior.

While TalentView® of Performance is a new offering for PDI, the methodology and science surrounding BARS is irrefutable. BARS offer a clear opportunity for organizations to upgrade performance measurement and development processes and to link them directly to financial and strategic objectives.
