PDI's Successful Manager's Handbook 2000 Makes 800-CEO-READ's Bestseller List Two Months Running
MINNEAPOLIS - (September 6, 2000) - Personnel Decision International's 2000 edition of the Successful Manager's Handbook: Development Strategies for Today's Managers has made 800-CEO-READ's top 25 list of best-selling business books for two months running. It debuted at No. 10 in July, and was listed at No. 23 in August.
Each month, 800-CEO-READ, a leading direct supplier of book-based resources to corporations nationwide, compiles a list of its top 25 best-selling business books based on purchases by its 10,000 corporate customers nationwide.
"The value of our list is that it truly reflects books that help business leaders respond to the real challenges and issues they face. Clearly, the Successful Manager's Handbook is considered an essential text by businesses, and they have responded to the expertise of PDI's consultants that makes up this resource," said Jack Covert, president and founder of 800-CEO-READ.
The content of the 2000 edition is organized around PDI's latest research identifying four critical leadership performance dimensions: thought leadership, results leadership, people leadership and self leadership. These broad dimensions are broken down into nine core factors of leadership, which are supported by development suggestions for learning or refining the specific skills and competencies that make up each factor. Books and seminars to learn more about each competency are listed at the end of the handbook.
"We are pleased with the success of the Successful Manager's Handbook, but we are not surprised by it," said Susan H. Gebelein, senior vice president at PDI and primary author and editor of the book.
Gebelein attributes the book's success to a combination of the valuable, research-based content of the book and its user-friendly format.
"This book doesn't read like a typical business book. Rather, the practical, on-the-job activities and advice are like having a management development consultant at your side," said Gebelein.
The Successful Manager's Handbook has a respectable track record. The 1996 edition was named Amazon.com's best selling title in the small press category in 1999. Nearly 1 million copies have been sold since its first edition in 1992.
